Fitbits are trending big-time but just which Fitbit is waterproof?

Waterproof Fitbit Ionic

For those that don’t know, Fitbit is an American company based in San Francisco, known for its activity trackers and Wi-Fi enabled wearable tech devices. And for those that need a device for swimming, we ask which Fitbit is waterproof and are they any good?

The latest Fitbits measure such information as steps walked, heart rate, sleep quality, steps climbed, and distance swam (in the case of Fitbit’s waterproof devices).

To save you reading through the whole article, Fitbit currently produces three models which are swim-proof. They are the Fitbit Flex 2, the Fitbit Versa and the Fitbit ionic models. With both of these devices, you can track your swimming automatically and see a summary of all your exercise data using the Fitbit app.

Fitbit Flex 2

The Fitbit Flex 2 is the slimmest of all the waterproof Fitbits and features a removable tracker which fits perfectly into the band, bangle, & pendant. With this activity tracker, you can record steps, distance, calories used, active minutes, hourly activity, and stationary time.

The Smart-Track function automatically records your every move when running, working out, or doing lengths in the local pool and it is fitted with auto sleep tracking so you are able to monitor how long and how well you sleep. You can even set sleeping goals and bedtime reminders to help you form better sleeping habits.

When receiving phone calls or texts, the Flex 2 gently vibrates and a discrete LED flashes coded lights so you will never miss an important call again!

The battery life is impressive with 5 days “day & night tracking” available on a single charge. To help you stay active all day, Flex 2 can be programmed to send “Reminders to Move” that encourage you to take the recommended 250 steps every hour.

This is the cheapest waterproof Fitbit available.

Fitbit Versa

If you’re after a waterproof smartwatch that can track your workouts and look great with your casual clothes, Fitbit’s Versa is the “new kid on the block” and a worthy contender to the Apple Watch.

The new watch is a big improvement over the previous model, in that it looks better, fits better, and is a little cheaper at $200. It’s also water resistant to 50 meters so is fine for swimming or bathing.

One of the best things about this Fitbit is the incredible battery life. You can just about get seven full days of battery life if you aren’t too active and five days if you are using it all the time.

The Fitbit Versa watch is compatible with both iOS and Android. If you need tunes when you exercise, you can get about 300 songs on the device. Simply connect some Bluetooth headphones to the watch and you won’t need to take your phone with you on long runs or hikes!

The Fitbit Versa has rounded corners and feels very light on the wrist. Like the other models, you can change the bands. There are multicolored Classic, Horween leather, metal mesh, and metal link options which you can buy separately if you get bored with the original look.

Of course, Fitbit’s main purpose is an activity tracker. Six different types of exercise can be tracked (running, swimming, cycling, treadmill, weightlifting, and workouts). All the data is logged on the Fitbit app. From the watch, you can see your steps & heart rate (in real time) but for most of the other data, you need to check the app on your phone.

The biggest gripe about the Fitbit Versa is easily rectified (if you spend a little more). Fitbit Pay is an amazing service but it’s only available with the Special Edition version of the Versa. This model has a tastier wristband and features NFC-capability.

In our opinion, the Fitbit Versa is the best priced waterproof smartwatch in its price band with top-of-the-line fitness tracking.
